Complexity Changes as Your Firm Grows

I've talked with several start-up and scale-up firms recently about their operations, challenges and opportunities. From these discussions, and my corporate experience, it became clear that firms of varying size have varying levels of complexity in the different segments of their businesses. This may seem obvious but small firms have few reference points and most main stream business books focus on large firm applications.

To help with this, I developed the chart below to inform smaller firms of the level of complexity that should suffice for their business now, and to inform them of the areas they need to plan on improving as they grow.

A second use for this chart is as a diagnostic tool. Choose the size of your organization and department of interest to determine where you may have opportunities for improvement.

If you want to discuss how to dramatically improve your product strategy and commercialization, let’s talk.
